MCEA puts up stop sign

to PolyMet permits

On November 1, 2018, without prior notice, DNR issued all the permits within its jurisdiction for the PolyMet project.  DNR took this action despite that fact that MCEA and allies have asked the Court of Appeals to order DNR to prepare a supplement to the Environmental Impact Statement based on PolyMet's financial status and admission that it is looking to expand the mine.  To respond to DNR's action, on November 8, 2018, MCEA and its allies sprang into action and demanded that DNR and MPCA "stay" the effectiveness of their permits until the Court of Appeals rules on the EIS case.  If the agencies do not agree with this demand, MCEA will ask the Court of Appeals to issue a stay.

In the meanwhile, MCEA and allies are reviewing the permits that DNR issued to see if they conform to Minnesota's environmental laws.  If they do not, MCEA will be taking legal action to have a court overturn those permits. Stay tuned for further updates.
